The chairman of the Infosys Foundation is the Indian educator, writer, and philanthropist Sudha Murty. N. R. Narayana Murthy, a co-founder of Infosys, is her husband. In 2006, the Indian government gave Murty the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian honour in the country, in recognition of his humanitarian services. She received the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian honor, later in 2023. Computer science and engineering were the fields in which Sudha Murty first pursued a career. She is a member of the Gates Foundation's public health care programmes and the head of the Infosys Foundation. She sponsored a number of orphanages, took part in initiatives for rural development, backed the campaign to equip all government schools in Karnataka with computer labs and libraries, and founded the Murty Classical Library of India at Harvard University. Murty is most recognised for her charitable work and contributions to English and Kannada literature. Her Kannada-language novel Dollar Bahu, which was later translated into English as Dollar Bahu, was turned into a dramatic television series by Zee TV in 2001.

The Marathi movie Pitruroon, based on the Sudha Murthy short tale Runa, was directed by Nitish Bhardwaj. The actor Sudha Murthy also appeared in the movie in the Kannada movie Prarthana. TATA Engineering and Locomotive Company, India's largest automaker, selected Sudha Murty as its first female engineer. (TELCO). She began working for the firm in Pune as a development engineer and then relocated to Mumbai and Jamshedpur. She had submitted a letter of complaint about the "men only" gender prejudice at TELCO to the company's chairman. She thus had a special interview and was recruited right away. Later, she accepted a position as Senior Systems Analyst with Pune's Walchand Group of Industries. She founded the Infosys Foundation in 1996 and has served as its trustee ever since.
